Michael Williams was murdered on August 30, 2005. He was found at around 9 am slumped over the steering wheel of his car here after working his shift at VM Northstar Steel.
Michael was 37 years old. His car was found just a few feet from his driveway. His official cause of death was "blunt force trauma to his head and extremities".
What we know so far is that he had spoken to his girlfriend on his ride home and said he was "home" before hanging up. The police believe he never made it home because his lunchbox was still on his passenger side seat. It rained that morning and according to police, "they found very little evidence". His car remains at the impound lot at the Sheriff's department. Recently there has been new activity in his case with new detectives following old and new leads. Many people were not ever interviewed for whatever reason, and even though my Aunt, Mike's Mom passed away in 2017, we are hoping that his case will get solved. There have been tons of speculation about what exactly happened to Mike and even several people have confessed to others that they murdered him, but they didn't amount to anything. Rumors circulated that there was a police officer involved, who committed suicide shortly after Mike's death, but again, there was no evidence to support that. Other rumors include that it was drug related, although he did not ever do drugs and his toxicology report verified that no drugs were in his system, and of course, the ever popular "he must have been messing around with a married woman", which anyone that had ever spent 5 minutes with Mike would realize that this too is not something he would ever do.
My Aunt was angry and with good reason! People used to call, specifically law enforcement or the prosecutor, and ask me to "calm her down" or "talk to her" and I refused. I told them that I would NEVER tell her how she should feel and no one has a right to. Her beloved son was murdered and his killer remains free. Of course she would be angry.
I have renewed hope because we have all new investigators and a new prosecutor in our county. I KNOW that new leads (and some old) are being followed. New evidence is being presented and although it is a cold case, as are most of the cases from CCFHV, it doesn't feel that cold to me. To me, it was just yesterday and I watched my Aunt suffer until the day she died always wondering what happened to her son, and WHY? I will continue to push people about this case for the same reason that I started to in 2005. Because I loved my Aunt very much, I loved my cousin very much, and because no one should ever have to wonder for years and years and years. His life mattered. He mattered and deserves justice.
Here is a podcast about my thoughts about Michael I did a few years ago.
